Mr William 11. Atkin, who was reelected sole selector at the annual meeting of the Auckland Bowling Club, submitted a report to members which opened somewhat humorously (states tho “Star”). “I know/* he stated, “that 1 have offended several members, and several members have offended me, but i hope I have given satisfaction to the majority, fully recognising that 'the (perfect selector* is not yet born. In selecting players my eyesight has been defective, in the way of not seeing the high playing qualities ffihat some members think they possess, Quite e number do not have tne even temperament necessary, they cAnnot fight a losing game, and ore completely upset when asked to play two or three when they think they are qualified for skip/* Mr Atkin exhorted member* when picked to play away from home to do so, no matter on what green, as it wa« a 'rotten thing" for tho selector to ask a man to play substitute.
