(By "Carbine.”) There was a fair amount of jumping and galloping at Trentham yesterday , morning. The weather was fine and , mild and the course was in good order, though a trifle heavy. Not nearly all the visiting horses had 'arrived, .but most of them are expected ‘to be there by to-day. One of the most interesting pieces of work was a round of the steeplechase fences by Glenisla, Lawsuit and Stair Officer. All jumped well, but Glenisla took the first two fences beautifully and greatly impressed the spectators by hie fencing. After this, however, the others drew up to him, and the trio took the remaining fences together. Dainty Step and Royal Box went seven furlongs in lmin 36sec, and the former appeared to have the better of the go. Capping Day was galloped alone, and covered four furlongs in 54sec and seven furlongs in lmin 39sec. Yellow Hammer, ridden by H. McSweeney, was sent a round of the schooling hurdles, and jumped well. The grey has improved remarkably in the last few weeks. Kaika, one of T. F. Qinlivan's team, was schooled by McSweeney, and managed a round of the hurdles, though he hit a couple of fences rather hard. Callaghan ran away from Jolly Bruce in a six furlong, spin, which took the former lmin 22sed to cover. Royal Exchange <H. McSweeney up) gave a good display of fast jumping in a round of the hurdles. The bay mare went well and got round very quickly. Patuki comfortably beat Blue Socks over seven furlongs in lmin 40sec. Listening Post and Sunny. Corner went seven furlongs in lmin SSsec. Listening Post was in front at the finish. Rorke's Drift, Palladium and Redstone were sent together over a round of the schooling hurdles. The trio did not begin too well, and Redstone stopped at the third fence. The others waited for him, and all were sent another round. Rorke'e Drift and Palladium jumped well, but Redstone lost ground at the fences. Rorke’s Drift improved with every jump, and gave a good showing. Te Kuri finished ahead of Kiiroe and Misrule over five furlongs in lmin 6sCc. Astinome was well in front of Moutoa’s Gifh at the end of four furlongs. Coalition did a solid round on the flat. He went well. Printempa and Rose of Athens were sent «ix furlongs together, but were not extended. Arch Salute covered fire furlongs in lmin Bsec. Kyoto was given strong work, and showed plenty of pace. Walton and Jackaroo set out together to do the round of the hurdles. Jackaroo got over the first fence all right, but the little fellow decided not to bother with the next, and gave an expert display of side-stepping, ducking and dodging as has ever been seen on a Rugby field. His rider brought him round to the initial hurdle again, and this he cleared well. Walton got as far as the second fence, baulked, and dropped his rider. Western Boom was sent at the hurdles, but did not shape well, and put Thorner off at the second fence. The horseman received injuries to one of his hands. Trentham Rose jumped fa6t and clean in a couple of rounds of the hurdles*, but Moonstruck, who started out with her, ran off at nearly every fence he was confronted with. Lord Desmond and Rimntaka did five furlongs in lmin 7sec. | Missland wag timed by her owner to do six furlongs in lmin 21sec.
