EFFECT OF INCREASED TARIFF. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. WASHINGTON, July 1. The Senate Tariff Committee has agreed upon a tariff of thirty cents a bushel on wheat. Senator Underwood declared that, this would increase America’s food hill by a hundred million dollars a year. In nearly every case the committee lira increased the duties on fruits over ti e House of Representatives’ figures, T::e duty on jellies, jams and marmalades is increased to 40 per cent, ad valorem from 23 per cpnt.; and on peaches, pears, plums and prunes (save m the fresh state or in brine) it is increased from 20 per cent, to 40 per cent.
