FIERCE FIGHTING DESCRIBED
By Electric Telegraph,—Press Association.—Copyright. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received July 3, 8.20 p.m.) LONDON, July 3. The result Of the fighting in Dublin up to midnight gives evidence that the bach of the rebellion has been broken, The rebels have been driven into a congested area with a 770 yards long frontage in Sackville street, Margaret street, and Parnell square. Many more or less important positions were captured during the enveloping movement. During an infantry attack the rebels exploded several mines. The civilian population is whole-heartedly assisting the Free Staters. Many girls are working day and night providing comforts for the troops. Men are assisting in other ways in sterner duties. Free State reinforcements are reaching the city. General O’Reilly communicated with Mr De Valera from the American Consulate, which was forced to remove to the Shelbourne Hotel. Firing ceased at 3 o’clock this morning, when the position was described as obscure. The next move was being awaited with anxiety.
