ANTS-BRITISH ARTICLES GOVERNMENT TAKES MEASURES TO CONTROL PRESS. POLICEMEN WANT SALARIES. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association, (Received July 1, 5.5 p.m.) DELHI, June 30. A Telicran cable states that in concc<; uecec of the continuance of libellous attacks in the local Press against tlie British Legation and the British policy, the Persian Government intends shortly to submit to tho Mcjlius (Parliament) a Press Act forbidding the publication of such .scandalous attacks. Two newspapers were suspended on Tuesday, also the Premier suppressed an objectionable anti-British article in another newspaper on Wednesday.
Tlie police have petitioned, drawing attention to the fact that salaries have not been paid for several months, and threatening to strike if tlie salaries are not forthcoming within ten days. The petition adds that the police will remain striking until the salaries are paid and arrangements made for regular payment in the future.
