OCCUPATION OF MANDATED TERRITORY. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. SYDNEY, July 1. An official report dealing with the military occupation of the mandated territory in New Guinea, states that the native population is estimated at from 350,000 to 400,000. The labour question is difficult, even, in tho modest stage attained by the tropical agriculture of about 150,000 acres under cultivation. Tile supply of plantation labour is already inadequate. The cost of the military administration from the date of occupation to the transfer to the civil administration, was £1,192,000, and the revenue was £884,000.
