GAMES IN WAIRARAPA

GOOD DISPLAY OF RUGBY GKEYTOWN WIN FROM RED STAR. (By. Telegraph —Special to "Times.”) .MASTER-TON, July 1. The Wairarapa Rugby Union’s championsiiip competitions were continued this afternoon. *in showery weather and on very heavy grounds. Uhe -principal senior game was played at Masterton between Red Star and Grey town. Ihe gam© was a decidedly interesting one and was on© of the host displays ot foot- ; ball seen in the Wairarapa for some considerable time. It was a contest between Greytown backs and Red Star forwards, and the Greytown backs won. They gave a brilliant display of passing/ despite the heavy ball and ground, in fact better than anything seen m Wairarapa this season. WELL COACHED. Their work displayed intelligent and persistent coaching. By their tricky play they easily demonstrated that they are the best back division in the Waira* rapa. They tossed the ball about freely in the first spell and hod Red Star almost continually on the defensive. Red Star forwards played a good game, but they had a hard task in the first half ns their backs, with the exception of about three, failed to show form. GREYTOWN FORGE AHEAD. In tho first half of the game Greytown put up 16 points (three tries, two of which were scored and a penalty goal) to nil. In the second spell the Red Star forwards held the upper hand and Greytown were rarely dangerous. On several occasions the Greytown team ©ought relief by forcing down. Red Star were, almost the whole spell, attacking, and the good collaring by tho team prevented the Greytown backs from getting going, while the heavy ball began to militate against their back play. After Red Star had narrowly missed a score on several occasions. Fuller, an ex* Berhamporo player, darted over the lino and touched down No goal resulted. The game ended Greytown 16 Red Star 1 3 RED STAR HANDICAPPED. Fuller played a great game for Red Star in the "back division, while Bishop and Sbuthgate al§o did splendid work. All the "Star” forwards played well, the team being handicapped, by having their half-back, Flaws, who is Wairarapa’s representative, away owing to in. jury, while their wing-forward, Dixon, was also absent for some reason.
