In the second round of the singles at Wimbledon, O'Hara Wood beat Hillyard, 6 3 's—6, 6—2, 6 —o; Anderson beat A. ll* Fyzee. 6 —2, 2 —6, 6—2, 6—3; Patterson bent Borotra, 6—o, 6—l, 6—3. The conditions of O'Hara Wood’s game were most difficult. He played on a sodden outer court immediatelv after rain, and .found difficulty in accommodating himself to the low-boundinfi ball and bad foothold. He lost the second set, and did not show 'his usual cleanness overhead. Afterwards he changed his tactics and devoted himself to long driving, which easily beat Hillyard.
