ISLAND BAY ELECTORS

THE ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Island Bay Electors and Ratepayers’ Association was held on Thursday evening, when a comprehensive report was presented of the year’s work. The report stated, amongst other things, that, mainly through the efforts of the association, the City Cor. poriation had- been induced to (1) Complete the large storm-water drain in Clyde street; (2) acquire certain land at the foreshore to enable improvements to be made in the form of a park, widening of esplanade, etc.; (3) conjplete a further portion of the tramway line duplication; (4) arrange for proper facilities for the fishing industry on the west beach side of the bay, so that such industry shall not interfere with the foreshore as a beauty spot or as a swimming attraction.

In moving the adoption of the report, Mr J. O. Shorland (who was acting as chairman in tho absence of Mr U. C. Odlin) gave a resume of the work completed by the outgoing committee, and stated that special thanks were duo to Mr 0. C. Odlin, who had entered whole-heartedly into the work ip a sound, businesslike, manner, and to the untiring efforts of the secretary (Mr G. R. C. Jackman), who, through a year of much detail work, had finished with nothing that was asked of him left undone.

The following officers were elected for the ensuing year:—President, Mt E. C. Colley; vice-presidents, Messrs C. C. Odlin, Shorland, Kerr, Boocock, Hickling, Ferkins; secretary, Mr G. R. C. Jackman; treasurer, Mr A. V. Dallow; auditor, Mr T. Pender; publicity, Mr H. H. Miller; committee, Messrs Willoughby, Mcllroy, Clark, Manttan, Wiggins, Reid, Thomson, Price, Eamshaw, Lewis, Sharp, and A. E. Gdlin. A resolution of thanks was extended to the Mayor, town clerk, city engineer, and counoil for the courteous reception to deputations during the year, and for the reception of and replies to correspondence.
