A CONFIDENCE TRICK
RIVIERE SENT TO PRISON. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received June 30, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, June 29. Gerald Riviere was sentenced to eighteen months’ imprisonment. Gerald de la Riviere, who dlheconded when on hail in London in December, on a charge of defrauding an engineer named Watkins of £IOOO by a confidence trick, was arrested at Monaco and extradited to England. It is understood that Riviere is well-known in Australia, where he married the daughter of a prominent Australian bookmaker.
