HUNTLY STATE MINE
OPERATIONS CLOSED DOWN. PLANT TO BE SOLD. Was it true that the Government had decided to sell the northern State coal .mine, in the Huntly district, and that it had already sold the plant and maiterial provided for the opening of the mine? was a question asked of the Minister for Mines yesterday by Mr W. E. Parry (Auckland Central). The Minister replied that the Government had decided some time ago to stop work on the mine because it was found that the cost of opening the mine and placing the coal on the market would be so much greater than was originally estimated. It was decided further, to close down operations, and most of the plant had 'been sold. The Government was now negotiating for the sale of the remainder. Two large 'boilers, which were left, might be disposed of to the Public Work* Department.
