FOXTON REQUESTS
DEPUTATIONS TO MINISTERS. IMPROVING AIOUTH OF RIVER. A'esterday a deputation from the proposed Manawatu River Board and the Foxt<m Harbour Board waited on the Alinister for Internal Affairs. Tho deputation w*m accompanied by Messrs J. A. Nash and E. Newman, Al.P.'a. Lt was explained that, to enable the river board to operate, it in accessary to give it control over a fairly large area of land on tidal watera now controlled by the Harbour Board. Mr Linklatcr. chairman of the Fcxton Harbour Board, assured the Alinister that 'here is no objection from that body. The proposal ia said to be part of a plm for a new cut near Foxton, which will improve the possibility of keeping the mouth of the river open for navigation. The Alinister said he would have a suitable clause drafted for inclusion in a local bodies’ empowering bill. Later, Air F.. Newman introduced to the Prime Alinis'er a. deputation consisting of Mr Chrypta’l. Mayor of Foxton, nnd Councillor Wibloy. who requested that an advance of £5900 due on a drainage loan be increased to £IO,OOO to enable the borough to meet its engagements in connection with drainage work and to provide work for unemployed. Air Alnssey said he would look into the position.
