MEXICAN BANDITS
CAPTURE AMERICANS AND SEIZE PROPERTY. DEMAND BY U.S.A. GOVERNMENT. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received June 28, 9.55 p.m.) WASHINGTON, June 27. The State Department has been advised that forty Americans were captured by Mexican bandits near Tampico and held to ransom. The Cortez Oil Company’s property was also seized. The Secretary of State (Mr C. E. Hughes) has made a strong demand that the Mexican Government should act immediately to suppress banditry, secure tho release ,of the Americans, and recapture the property.
