DUTY ON BEER
NO REDUCTION IN ENGLAND. QUESTION DEBATED IN PARLIAMENT. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received June 28, 9.55 p.m.) LONDON, Juno 27. In the House of Commons, Sir R. iS. Home (Chancellor or the Exchequer) accepted an amendment to the Finance Bill halving the duty on intoxicants supplied to clubs. Subsequently an amendment was moved reducing the duty on beer from 100 s to 70s per barrel. Stir R. S. Home said this would involve an addition of one shilling ill the income tax. A prolonged debate followed, speaker® urging that the duty should be reduced in view of the recent enormous deductions from wages. The amendment was rejected.
