TWO HEROIC MEN

MESSRS J. P. FIRTH AND F. W. VOSSELER. A CLUB’S CONGRATULATIONS. Air J. S. Keith last night addressed the members of the Victoria Bowling Club on the subject of the honour awarded by His Majesty the King to their fellow-member, Air J. P. Firth, C.AI.G., whom ho described as a hero. A man who had done what Air Firth had done, in training the mind and body of Ncwv Zealand youth was, said Air Keith, undoubtedly a hero, and he could find no better word for him. He mowed that a letter of congratulation b© sent to Air Firth by the club. The president (Councillor C. J. B. Norwood) said the' honour paid by His Majesty to Air Firth had been thoro uglily deserved, and they were all very proud to have him among them. Air Firth, in responding, modestly disclaimed his title to be considered a hero. But there was, he said, a real hero in the club; and he was very proud to be a fellow-member in the same club as Mr F. \V. Vosseler, at whose entrance, shortly afterwards, the whole club stood in honour, to the enthusiastic strains of “He’s a jolly good fellow.” Air J. S. Keith moved that a letter be sent by the club secretary to Air Vossoler, congratulating him upon an action worthy of the v.C. His feat in the snow-bound mountains was, he said, a great deed of valour in the face of almost oeriam death to him and to the brave little band that followed him.
