A BRIEF SITTING NOTICES OF AMENDMENT TO ADDRESS. IMPREST ON FRIDAY. The House of Representatives met at 2.80 p.m. yesterday, the Speaker (Sir F. W. Lang) in the chair. At 2.35 Black Rod summoned the members of the House to "another place," whither they thronged, preceded by Mr Speaker and the Sergeant-at-Arms with the mace. Fifteen minutes later Mr Speaker and hon. members returned, and Mr Speaker laid on the tablo of the House a copy of the Governor-General’s speech, which he had "obtained for purposes of greater accuracy." ADDRESS-IN-REPLY TWO AMENDMENTS. Mr T. M. Wilford (Leader of the Opposition) gave notice of his intention to move an amendment to the Address-in-Reply to the Governor-General’s speech. Mr H. E. Holland (chairman of the Parliamentary Labour Party) gave notice to move an amendment to the Addrees-in-Reply : "(1) This House expresses the opinion that as the latest figures reveal that there has been no fall in the cost of living as between Maroli, 1920, and March, 1922, the Government was not warranted in reducing the salaries of public servants, and therefore restitution should be made at least to the lowerpaid employees; (2) that it should he immediately announced that there will be no further reduction in the public servants’ salaries in July; (8) this House disapproves of the Government's attitude towards the members of the Post and Telegraph Officers’ Association because of their perfectly constitutional decision to affiliate with the Alliance of Labour, every affiliation of which is duly registered under the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act: and (41 this House condemns tho Government f-m its failure to deal effectively with the problem of unemployment."
