WELLINGTON CLUB ANN UAL MEETING. Tho thirty-sixth annual meeting of the Wellington Bowling Club was held last evening in the club's -pavilion, when a very large attendance of mourner© was present. 'Hie annual report wa-s adopted, on the motion of the retiring president, Air U. Magnus. It contained the following : Your directors congratulate shareholders upon tlie continued prosperity of the club and its sound financial position. During tho year ended AJay 31st, 1322, 31 new members were elected, and the loss by resignation and other causes was 14, leaving a total membership of 243 ’including I*2 honorary members). The winners of the club competitions were: Champion Singles, Air R E. Alanley; Champion Pairs* Messrs J. B. Brinsdcn and J. Porteous; Champion Rinks, Messrs W. J. Osborn, W. Grenfell, W. J. Thompson, and J. Porteous; president’s and vice-president's trophies. Messrs J. AI. Daweon, I‘. Crease, S. T. Wickstenrt, and F. J. Gooderj the run-ners-up being Ales-srs C. Bary. M Bird, A. Hamilton, and F. Tasker. The club took part in the usual inter-club matches and was successful in winning its section in the contest for tho Tennants. In the champion of champions competitions, the club was represented, but without favourable result. The annual match, Christchurch v. Wellington \Friendly Bowl) took place on the Christchurch green on Thursday, February 23rd, and resulted in a win for the Christchurch Club. The outing was much enjoyed by our players, who were treated most hospitably. The Duthio Cup competition took place on the Hutt Club's green on Thursday, February lGth, and resulted in a win for the Hutt teams. Tho visitors were entertained in a manner worthy of the best traditions of the Hutt Club. _ The annual match against the combined city and suburban clubs was played on Saturday, February 11th. Fifteen rinks took part, and the match resulted 111 a win for our club. Your directors record with deep regret the death of five members. namely. Alessrs J. Blundell, P. L. Corliss, IC. Gilmer, J. Smith, T. Staoe. The billiard-tables continue to be & source of pleasure to the members, and are now free of debt. The tournaments now in progress are proving interesting. Much of the eucofeas of our billiard-room is due to the interest taken in connection therewith by Air Fred Tasker. Tho president and vice-president entertained the members and their lady friends at a social evening, which was greatly enjoyed. The kindness of the donors was much appreciated by members and visitors. The .directors desire to express tlieir thanks for the £reat help given by the ladies at the various functions held at the .clsb-hous©. We have ,confidence that the shareholder© will regard the balance-sheet as most satisfactory. Great kudos is due to ihe honorary treasurer for his untiring zeal. An evidence of this lies in the fact that not) one single subscription is now overdue. "AIOST SATISFACTORY YEAR." Air Magnus stated that during the past year the club had played 46 matches on 24 days. There were 212 members on the roll, and 141 had been selected to play. Of the balance of 71 members, 22 were absent from town or not available for selection, and the remaining 48 were elderly members who did not desire to play in matches. Almost ©very available player had been selected for a game during the season, and the position attained by the club in the pennant play was the most satisfactory for some years. The prizes won by the dub members during the year were presented amid loud applause by the retiring president, Air G. Alagnus. THE TREASURER-. It was proposed by Mr G. Magnus and seconded by Mr 11. G. Smith — That tlio members of the Wellington Bowling Club authorise the directors to provide from the club funds an amount sufficient to purchase some appropriate token of their high esteem of the untiring efforts of their honorary treasurer. Air I. Salek. The motion was carried unanimously. On the motion of Air Wylie, it was decided that the sum to be set aside for the above purpose should he 100 guineas. GENERAL. It was moved by Mr G. Alagnus and seconded by Air W. J. Thompson that the club's directors be authorised to increase the locker fee, payable on all new applications for lockers, from 12s 6d to <£l Is. PENNANT GAMES. It was moved by Mr J. J. Roberts and seconded by Air H. Mayer, that it be a recommendation to the directors that the club should not compete in pennant games during the season 1922-23. The motion was lost by a small majority. Air moved —"That it be a recommendation to the directors from this meeting, that they take into considera. tion the matter of playing the pennants as formerly with a view of suggesting to the centre some other method of playing inter-club matches, so that sociability between the various clubs belonging to the centre should be promoted and maintained." -• This was also defeated. election of officers.
