PUBLIC SERVANT’S ARREST
NEfFILLB WARD BEFORE COURT. ACCUSED REMANDED ON BAIL. At the Magistrate’s Court yesterday bifore Mr F. K. 1 lun t, S.M., William Neville Ward, aged 68, waa charged that on March 31st last, having in his possession certain documents as a clerk in the employ of the New Zealand Government, m the District Land and Deeds Registry Office, he stole them, and for purposes of fraud he obliterated certain documents belonging to the New Zealand Government. Chief-Detective Kemp asked for a remand for eight clear days, till July 5 th. Mr W. E. Leicester, who appeared on behalf of the accused, asked for bail, requesting His Worship not to make it too heavy. He suggested that bail bo allowed in the accused’? own recognisances of £2OO. and. say, two further sureties of £IOO each. The magistrate agreed to this, and remanded the case till July sth.
