SHELLED STEAMER
BRITISH PROTEST TO RUSSIA. The British Government has forwarded to the Soviet Government a strong protest against the attack by a land battery on the British steamer Datchet at Odessa. Tho master of the Datchet, a London steamer of 3110 tons, reported by wireless that the ship was struck by a shell from a Black Sea coast battery, and was so damaged that 6he had to bo beached. The Lloyd’s message from Constantinople reporting the news added that the captain stated that No. 2 hold was full of water, that the stokehold bulkhead was leaking badly, and that tho firce had had to bo drawn.
