WOMEN AND LIQUIR
WARNING BY MAGISTRATE. FS3 PBBSB ASSOCIATION. CHRISTCHURCH, June 2. At the annual meeting of the lacens* ing Committee, Mr Widdowson, S.M., brought under the netioe of licensees several matters which required attention or remedying. One of these was the amount of drinking by women at certain hotels, and the encouragement given them to do so. The committee, he said, recognised that women had the right to drink in hotels, but licensees most discourage the custom as much as possible. He also mentioned that when the police visited certain hotels they were not admitted as quickly as they should he. Apparently means had been found to give warning of the approach of the ponce. If further complaints were received, action would be taken to stop the practice.
