RETURN OF AUSTRALIAN TEAM. ENJOYABLE TIME AT NELSON. - The Australian socoer team returned from Nelson by the Wednesday uigho boat, reaching Wellington about 7.30 a.m. yesterday. They bad a rather rough trip across the straits, but none of them suffered from mal do mer, and all looked happy and contented with their entertainment and their victory over the Nelson team. The goals were scored by Ward (3), Brown (3). Cumberford (1), and Doyle (1). Last night they were the guests of the management of the King’s Theatre, and this morning they are being entertained bo morning tea at the D.I.C. by the manager, Mr W. Simm. This afternoon they attend school football matches at Anderson and Kelburn Parks, where they will be spectators for a change. ENTERTAINED, AT NELSON. The Australian and Nelson teams, with supporters, sat down to dinner at tile Masonic Hotel, when the Mayor (Hr Lock) presided. Daring a lengthy toast list, reference was made to the ties binding Australia and New Zealand, and upholding the policy of a white Australia. Both Mr Morgan and Mr Storey expressed appreciation of the warm welcome extended to the Australians on every hand. Complimentary references were also made to the N.Z.K.A., which was regarded as a virile body. INJURED PLAYERS. The captain of the Australian team, A. Fisher, is not making very good progress with his injured knee, which had swollen considerably. He did not play at Nelson, and both he and Maunder were under medical treatment yesterday. EDUCATIONAL WORK. Mr W. Reynolds, assistant secretary of the N.Z.F.A., accompanied the team to Xel9on, and daring a few remarks he said the N.Z.F.A. regarded the tour as an educational one in the interests ot the soccer game rather than from the financial point of view. He *as put in some excellent work in organising the tour, which promises to be extraordinarily successful, and should be of ink mense good to the socoer game throughout the Dominion. PRESS ACCOMMODATION. Two representatives of the Press at* tended at the Basin Reserve yesterday morning, with Mr A. E. Wells, chairman of the Wellington Council, which body has done its utmost to make comfortable provision for the journalist* engaged ir reporting the match on Saturday.
