REBELS DEFEATED
TROUBLE IN AFRICA. STRONGHOLD SUCCESSFULLY ASSAULTED. Australian and N-Z. Cable A—oriatioo. CAPETOWN, May 81. The operations against the rebel Bondelzwarts tribe culminated in a successful asault on a stronghold at Haib by troops and volunteer settlers, assisted by asrapkaea. The situation was captured. The enemy suffered severely. Aeropktna bomba caused much havoc, especially among the enemy’s ptock. The principal rebel leader, Morris, and a considerable number of his followers escaped under cover of darkness. A hundred prisoners were captured. The official report states that: “The rising has been completely crashed with the loss to our forces of two killed and two wounded. A considerable number of the enemy were killed, including two leaders.” It is believed that the fugitives are making for the Orange River. Troops have oeen dispatched in that direction.
