VESSEL'S STERN DISAPPEARS

WILD AND INACCESSIBLE LOCALITY. At 2 o’clock this afternoon; a message from the Chief Postmaster at Auckland stated that the steamer had broken in halves, and the stern portion had disappeared. The crew appeared to be on the forward half, Which was still on the rocks. The place where the ship was wrecked is a very wild spot, with inaccessible cliffs, and owing to the heavy seas running there was no chance of rescue except by lines.
