STEAMER ON BARRIER REEF WILT SHIRK STRIKES HOCKS LATF LAST NIOIIT. SHIP EXPOSED TO GALE. PEH PRESS ASSOCIATION. Al'C'K LAND, May 31. The secretary of the Post and telegraph Department (Mr H. B. Morris) lias received the following telegrams from the stations mentioned: "11.11 p.m. — Following radio has been received from s.s. Wiltshire: — ‘Heavy list on starboard, l(i feet water in No’. 1 hold, danger imminent and serious. Sno is listing more and mote. Am taking necessary action. Robins, radio, Auckland.” "11. 11l p.m.—s.s. Wiltshire, bound from Panama to Auckland, sends out tin' S.O.S.:—'Gone ashore on Harrier Reef at 11.25 p.m. Advised, radio Auckland. Heavy list to starboard', and there is lli Ret of water in No. 1 hold. At 11.‘-8 p.m. advised radio Auckland that danger wins imminent, vessel listing more and more.’ —Radio, Wellington.” "11.35 p.m.—Wiltshire advises seuo assistance at once. In grave danger. —Radio Auckland.” ‘•The Katoa and Arahura started at midnight to assist the Wiltshire. Tim former is 25 miles and the latter DO miles distant.—Radio, Wellington, 11.25 p.m.” "12.10 a.m. —Wiltshire advises: — •Captain says lie is not sure, too dark to know, but thinks vessel south end of Barrier Island.’—Radio Auckland.”
