FAT STOCK SALf PRICES REALISED AT BURNSIDE. IM£B PRESS .A SSOPT’ATIoN DUNEDIN, May 31. Although supplies ot fat stock were offered at the Burnside sales to-day they were on the small side, and tkeie was more than sufficient for lequiremests. The quality on the average was not up to the usual standard, there was little life in the market, aud it was noticed that export buyers were operating cautiously, which was no doubt due to the uncertainty of the labour market at the freezing works. Fat Cattle. —A medium yarding, a total of 186 head being penned. The quality was not up to last week's standard, and although competition was not very keen good quality animals were sold at prices Slightly above last week's rates. Prime ox beef was worth up to 22s 6d, light 21Sj and cow and heifer beef from 16s to 18s per 1001 b. Prime bullocks realised from £9 17s 6d to «£ll 10s, medium .£7 to o£B 10s, light and unfinished sorts from «£4 17s fid to £6 ss; prime heifers realised from .£5 12s fid to <£6.los, medium £4 to £5 ss, light and aged from £3 upwards. Sheep.—A medium yarding, numbering 2077 head. The quality was of mixed description and the sale lacked spirit. Good quality wethers were from Is to Is 6d per head dearer, but prices for all otbe sorts were about on a par with last week's ates. The yarding was comprised mostly of medium wethers and ewes. There waß a fair demand for prime quality sheep, and a few graziers were in the market for unfinished wethers. Prime wether mutton brought from 4d to 4id, and ewe mutton 3d per lb. ..Extra prime heavyweight wethers realised up to 32s 3d, prime 26s to 295. medium 20s to 235, light and unfinished sorts from 16s to 19©, prime ewes from 17s to 20s, medium 12s 6d to 15s, light and aged from 9s to 11s fid. Lambs.—A medium yarding, numbering about 1200 head. The quality was not very good, and competition was 6oemwhat slack, and a dragging sale resulted. The eale opened at prices about on a par with last week's rates, but a weakening tendency set in as the sale progressed. The last sale of the day showed a reduction of about Is per head. Prime lambs were well competed for, but medium and other sorts were hard to sell. Prime lamb was worth from 6sd to 7d per lb. Best quality lambs realised from 22s 6d to 245, medium 19s to 21s 6d, lighter kinds from 14s upwards. Store Cattle.—A email yarding was offered, and among the number i>enned was a line of four and five-year-old bu.L locks in 6plendid condition. These came from Central Otago, and attracted considerable attention. The line was sold under good competition, prices ranging from £5 to *B7 10s per head. There was very little demand for young and backward conditioned cattle, and lower prices \ had to be accepted in order to effect &ales. Pigs.—A small yarding. The number offered, however, was quite sufficient for requirements. Although competition was slack the prices realised were about ! on a par with those which ruled at last week's sale. Best baconers realised from 6d to 6£d per lb, and best porkers from 6|d to 7£d per lb. SALE AT JOJINSONVILLE. Messrs Abraham and Williams, Ltd., and Messrs* Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., report on their Johnsonville ,fat 6tock sale, held on Wednesday, May 31st, as follows: —A good quality yarding of. sheep came forward, including some extra prime two-tooth wethers, which realised prices in excess of last week. Some heavy ewes were penned, but competition on these was dull. Any good lambs sold well, but plain stuff was neglected. The quality of the beef was good, and best ox made up to 21s per 1001 b. Calves and vealers showed a slight improvement on last week. Vealers sold freely.
