NEW 500 MILES RECORD. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received May 31, 8.5 p.m) NEW YORK, May 31. Jimmy Murphy, the American winner of the French Grand Prix in 1921, won a 500 mile automobile race at Indianapolic, averaging 94.48 miles per hour, a world’s record for the distance.
