COMMUNITY PRAYER, NO. 2

Provided tho community will pray as Christ prayed 1900 years ago for the material welfare of the hungry, the naked and the 'homeless, the Christian statesmen of to-day may bp speedily induced to remove economic ills responsible for awful human suffering. For surely they aTe really Christians. At no time in the history of Christendom have so many millions faced death from starvation as are now dead and' dying in this badly misgoverned world. Terrible economic ill.s prevail everywhere. Finance is universally unstable and fluctuating in all directions. Inflation is ! ruining some nations and deflation is ruining others. British Bominions are in the latter category, and overwhelmed with war loans raised in times of inflation, and which our now deflated currency cannot possibly redeem. There is no happy equilibrium anywhere—, no happy medium of exchange consequently deficits, insolvencies, and unemployment ravish our economic life. The one and only sovereign, remedy is via the media of a new system 'of cooperative banking on national and international lines. Wp must all pray for Mr Massey to initiate a financial movement to save starving men, women, and children in the way Christ taught mankind 1900 years ago. Universal community prayer is wanted to soften the 'hearts of the rulers of the economic destinies of nations, who, mis- j takenlv think there is no sovereign remedy for the financial troubles that now beset this world, because political economists and selfish financiers wrongly declare that a narrow gold medium of exchange is the right and proper form of currency no matter how cruelly the mass of people suffer therefrom. The following prayer suggests the sovereign remedy for the. economic ills of Christendom / "Mav oupf Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ —whose spirit ever watches over fhp.nffairs of this world, and is fully consoious of the one and only sovereign remedy, whereby our economic ills can be removed —so influence the minds of men responsible for the good government of nations, and particularly the head of the Government of New Zealand, to that Christian forms of national banking shall supersede the mammonistio methods now in vogue, and which cruel methods ere causing awful woe and misery throughout all Christendom, and sacrificing an even greater number of lives than were slain in the recent War of Armageddon.
