THE ONSLOW SOCIETY. ANNUAL REPORT ON PAST YEAR. The sixth annual Report of the Onslow Horticultural and Beautifying Society records a most successful past year. The various activities of the society during the period under review, it is pointed out, have resulted in a credit balance of £2O 7s 6d; besides this, the society has assets to the value of £2l Bs, which is considered a very healthy condition of finances. Two shows and one spring display were held during the'year. All were well patronised, reflecting great'credit on all who helped, either by their labour or their splendid exhibits. Although, owing to the generous prizemoney paid, the two snows were not financially successful, the society hud every reason to be satisfied with the attendance, th© entrios, and the keen interest shown. This augured well for any future undertakings. Th© prizemoney for the previous year for one show was £5 2s 6a, and during the past season £25 12$ had been paid out for two shows. Donations amounting to £4 19s were received from enthusiastic members, but, despite this, the payment of so large a sum as £25 had proved a serious drain on th© finances. As tlie objects of the society were for the advancement of horticulture in the whole district, it was sincerely hoped that more practical assistance might be forthcoming eo that future shows might be more successful. ' The increase in membership was also 'ai matter for congratulation, the members now numbering 61, as against 83 in th© previous year. Although it was a disappointment that the 100 mark wag not reached, it wag earnestly hoped that figure would be exceeded during th© forthcoming season. Prospects were favourable, as the increase of entries for the autumn show over the number at the summer show was 60 per cent.
