AUSTRALIANS AT NELSON,

ENTHUSIASTIC WELCOME. (By Telegraph.— Special to "Times.”) NELSON, May 39. The Australian Association football team was accorded a great reaction by the Mayor and citizens of Nelson on arriving here. Tho players are tit and well. They had a splendid trip across the strait and after landing had a practice match on Trafalgar Parle. The Nelson people excelled themselves in entertainment. An interesting event was a visit by tho Australians to Nelson College. Mr Broad, tho principal, welcomed the visitors and expiesscd gratification that the visitors were to play in Nelson. He said that no grounds were availab’e, otherwise a Soccer team would be formed at the school. He hoped the future would be productive of good results. Later there was a civic reception. A big crowd attended and there was great enthusiasm. Mr William Lock, the Mayor, who was in the chair, Dr. Grey Opatlron of the association), and the Hon. W. W. Snodgress welcomed the visitors. Messrs Morgan, Storey, and Fisher replied for the visitors, and Mr Reynolds, representing the New Zealand Association, responded. In. tho afternoon the team were the guests of the Nelson Football Association, and were treated to a motor drive up the Waimea. Subsequently there was a dinner at the Masonic Hotel, at which influential townsfolk spoke. The prospects are for fine weather to-morrow and the ground is in good order. To-night Nelson ladies are giving a dance. ;The Nelson team is as follows:—McKella, Schofield, Hurst, .Tack-on. Wheeler, G. Beveridge, Mansell, W. Richards, Hayward, A. Davies, W. Davies. THE AUSTRALIANS. TEAM TO MEET NELSON. Four changes are to be made in the Australian Soccer team to-day, when tho match against Nelson will lie played. _ Fisher and Maunder received injuries at Wanganui which will necessitate their standing down for the present; tho first-named player will be replaced by Mißride, and Brown will bs shifted from outside to centre to replace Maunder. Dane will take the place of Brown on the right wing, and Ward will step into Bratton’s place as inside right. Bryant will act as goalkeeper in place of Cartwright, and thus tho only player not placed in one of the two games so far will be Storey.. The team selected is as follows : Goal: C. W. Bryant.

Full-backs: W. Mcßride, D. Cumberford. Half-backs: A. Gibb (captain), C. Shenton, P. Doyle.

Forwards: W. Dane, D. Ward, G. W. Brown, J. Oumberford, and T. Thompson.

Mr C. Parkinson will take charge of the match.
