N.Z EXECUTIVE MEETING. VARIOUS QUESTIONS DEALT WITH. At a- meeting of the executive et the New Zealand Automobile Union the following were present: —-Messrs C. M. Banks, L. Ashcroft Edwards, B. L. Donne, F. J. White, S. H. Underwood, and I. V. Wilson. With regard to the Hutt County Council prohibiting loads of more than three tons to go over the Paekakariki and Rimutaka hills during several months in the year, it was decided that the matter he referred to the Wellington Automobile Club for their action. In response to the union’s s-ugges tion that the Hutt County Counoil should erect direction posts in White, man’s Valley, it was decided to leave the matter in the hands of the Wellington Automobile Club, being a mat ter of a purely local nature. In regard to the inquiry', put forward to the city motor inspector, with respect to the' inspection of motor lorries that carry passengers, the traffic inspector wrote stating that when vehicles, are fitted with temporary seats for passenger®, and such vehicles are presented for a license, the seating arrangements are inspected. Ship Company advised that they would be prepared to reconsider the charges for freight when the arbitration award was made public.—lt was decided to again write the company, pointing out that the costs for coal, handling charges, etc., were coming down, and to ask them to reconsider the matter. % The Minister for . Internal Affairs wrote that he was considering tho suggestions to he included in the Motor Vehicles Bill, with regard to lorries carrying mirrors and all push cycles to carry rear liglitß. The National Auto Chamber of Commerce of New York wrote giving full information re university scholarships which offers all reasonable expenses and tuition for a four years’ course ut v any university or college to anyon\ who writes the best essay on “How Good Roads are Developing my Community.” It was decided to send a copy ol a letter from the R.A.O. to all affiliated associations and tlio South Island Motor Uriion, touching upon affiliation. It was resolved to invito the New Zealand Auto Cycle Union to affiliate with the Now Zealand Automobile Union with the object of securing representations of motor cyclists on tho subject of ahy future legislation. It was decided that delegates from affiliated motor associations should moot on June 6th, and invitations- he sent to the Motor Traders’ Association, the South Island Union, and tho Good Roads Association to be present. The Counties’ Association had Written inviting delegates from tho union to meet -them at a preliminary meeting before tho conference to he held on June 7th. It was decided to invite Mr L. S. Drake, the city motor inspector, to the meeting. Tho chairman, announced that, together with Mr A. Edwards and the secretary, they had had preliminary meetings, and submitted a policy witu regard to the proposed Main Highways Bill for approval. Considerable discussion took place with .regard to the various proposals .submitted. A policy was finally agreed upon, and is to bo submitted to the various delegates of motor associations.
