UNION LEADER CHARGED WITH TREASON. TEST T’RIAI) FAILS. Australian and. N.E. Cable Association. (Received Mav 29, 9.50 p.m.) NEW YORK, May 28. At Charlestown (West Virginia) the test trial of William. Blizzard, union leader, who was charged with treason, resulted in his acquittal. Blizzard is one of nearly two hundred men held on charges of treason and arson. The trials of the other accused have been postponed till late in the summer. It is not expected that the State will secure any convictions on the major charge. A cable message received in the latter part of last month stated:—At the historic Courthouse, in West Virginia, where John Brown was convicted of treason iu 1859, two hundred miners, mostly mountaineer folk, are being tried for murder, arson, riot, and lesser crimes, as the result of last autumn’s coal strike and mine war. More than 700 indictments have been returned. All the arrests have not yet bean made. The prisoners in court are chained in gangs.
