NEW TECHNICAL SCHOOL BOARD TOUCHES ON GOVERNMENT’S ATTITUDE. FIVE ROOMS OCCUPIED. Mr W. 11. Bennett reported to the Technical College Board last ing that the staff and pupils of the college had taken possession oi live rooms in tho now college that ing, in all about 140 pupils. iais had taken that many scholars away from their atrocious conditions m Cuba street. FURTHER REQUESTS. Lasit month the Wellington Tecmm cal College board of managers afcked the Prime Minister and the Minister lor Education to convey to the board a further strip of land adjoining the site of the new college j to authorise tho performance of work required to render the central part of the new building available for use; and to authorise the calling of tenders tor tho completion of the north-oast Ppf't of the contract. It was estimated these works would cost £21,000. Tho board was informed last ©tuning that the Ministers had replied that they would confer and tiie board of any decision reached. Mr W. H. Bennett, chairman of thf board, remarked that it was 110 F the end of May, and nothing definite had been done. He hoped that in a very little while the finances ot the board would be put on a better footing. The finances were low at present, and if tho board was to can} on properly strong representations would have to be made to the Government. OFFICIAL OPENING. Members expressed ,the opinion thsjf tho Government’s treatment should not be taken without kicking against it, and it was decided that it nothing definite was heard in fourteen days a deputation should wait on the Ministers. • ‘ ' . The date of the official opening ot the now building was left to the chairman.
