Grigsby, provincial commissioner of boy scouts, and Mr E. B. B. Boswell, provincial secretary, passed through Wellington on their way to Christchurch to attend the annual Dominion conference, which is being held there this week. Mr E. D. Stanley, secretary of the AucJc land Agricultural and Pastoral Association, have been appointed to represent the associate on at the forthcoming Council of Agriculture Conference at Wei* lington. Mr George Andrew Harton, who was well known in Wellington, passed away recently at his residence, St. Aubyn street, Hastings. Mr Harton" was bom at Mullingar County, West Meath, Ireland. He died at the comparatively early age of 54 years. Mr J. B. Carmthers has been elected chairman of the Tararua Power Board. Messrs Hay and Vickerman have been engaged at a fee of 109 guineas to make a survey of the inner area. Mr J. Cow* lam (clerk to the Eketahuna County Council) has been appointed secretary to the board. The depth occurred recently at Farm r ham, Surrey, England, of General John Beckworth Leefe, late of the Royal Marine Artillery. During the Boer wai he was officer-ih-charge of the Boer prisoners interned at St. Helena. General Leefe was for three years on H.M.S. Orlando, when that vessel was stationed in Australasian waters. At the quarterly meeting of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association last night, on the motion of Mr B. Keesing, a hearty vote of thank© was accorded Mr A. G. Henderson for the very excellent arrangements that he, as manager, had made in connection with the visit oi the New Zealand ladies* team to New South Wales. Drs. T. H. A. Yalintine, Director-Gen-eral of Health, and Dr. D. S- Wylie, Director of the Division of Hospitals, have left for the South Island, where they will attend the conference of South Island Hospital Boards at Timaru on Wednesday in connection with the proposal to establish a consumptive sanatorium in Central Otago. Major F. W. Sandford, of New Plymouth, passed thnough Wellington to take up his residence in Rangiora. He has been associated with the Boy Scout movement in Taranaki for many years, having been Commissioner since 1914, and previous to that he was chief examiner. Before leaving New Plymouth Hajot Sandford was made the recipient of a presentation by Boy Scouts. The numerous friends both in Wellington and on the West Coast of Mr Frank Kemple will regret to hear the new« of his death which occurred at an early hour this morning. Mr Kemple, who was employed on the mechanical branch of the “New Zealand Times,** had only been ill a few days and passed away shortlv after admission to the hospital. Of a kindly nature the late Mr Kemple had a host of friends who will feel his loss keenly indeed. An old resident of Yaldhurst, in the person of Mr John Franks, died the other day. He came to New Zealand by the ship David G. Fleming, in 1863, and landed at Lyttelton. The deceased wan proprietor of the Talbot Hotel, Yaldhurst, for over thirty years. He was an enthusiastic sportsman, and was one of the founders of the Plumpton Park Totting Club—afterwards named Canterbury Park—of which he was made a life member. Mr and Mrs Franks celebrated their golden wedding in 1913. His Grace Archbishop Julius, Primate of New Zealand, who arrived from Roto* rua at the week-end, is staying with his daughter, Mrs A. L. Haneell, of Lower Hutt. His Grace will leave for Nelson this evening, and will return to Wellington cn Thursday, leaving for Christchurcft on Friday night. At Christchurch His Grace will be accorded an official welcome on June 6th, at the Choral Hall. The Mayor of Christchurch will preside, and his Excellency the Governor-General and the Prims Minister have been invited to be present. The funeral of the late Police-Sergeant A. McGregor, who died at Fairlie, took place at Nelson. Deceased was for several years stationed at Nelson, and the respect in which he was universally held was testified to by the large cortege which followed the remains to the Wakapuaka cemetery. There was a full attendance of the local police force, including. SeniorSergeant Barrett, and a number of the bearers were Constables O'Neill. Fitzsimmons. T. Hickey, Hardv, McKinley, and Mr .T. Fingland (Magistrate's Court). Among the mourners present was Con* stable T. McGregor, of Shannon, s brother of deceased. The burial service was read by Rev. G. 11.
