The Auckland Women's Club entertained Miss Rosina Buckman, Mr Maurice D’Oisly, and their concert party tc an “At Home” last- Friday afternoon, which was well attended, in the rooms recently acquired by the Cilub in Short? Miss Rosina Buckiuan was gowned in sapphire blue velvet, ambroid* ered in steel beads, and a toque trimmed with blue and gold graiies. Miss Helen Wilson, of New Plymouth, is on a visit to Wellington. Miss Brandon (Wellington), who was runner-up for the golf championship in New Plymouth, has left for Wanganui, where she will be the guest of Mrs Russell Grace. A quiet wedding of considerable inter, est was celebrated on Saturday morning when Mrs Louis Smith and Mr T. Hislop wero married at -St. John’s Church. The Rev. Dr. J. Gibb performed tho ceremony, Mr George Hislop was best man, and the.bride was given away by her brother, Mr William Stevenson. After the ceremony, at which only a few friends and relatives were present, a reception was held at “Sayes Court.” Mrs Guy Williams and her mother Mrs Hope Lewis (Trentham), who have been in New Plymouth for the golf tour- ! nnment, returned to Masterton on Sat--1 urday. Mrs Giesen, of 'Wellington, is staying with her sister in Auckland. Miss Clare Lennon, qf Hataitai, haa left on an extended visit to Sydney and Adelaide A most pleasant time was spent on Saturday evening at the Club of Comradeship, Taranaki street' Methodist 1 Church The evening took the form ;of a mock trial by jury of a breach' of promise'case. The judge, the court officials, and legal' representatives were - th orthodox garb, and the jury appeared in costumes representative of all grades of society. The full court procedure wag followed, making the entertainment instructive, and the humorous situations created provided an abundance of amusement. At the dose of the court supper was provided, bringing -a moat enjoyable evening to a close. Mrs Freetli, of New Plymouth. is spending the winter in Sydney with her son, Mr Pierce C. Freetli, of the "‘Sydney Morning Herald.” Mis* Melville, of Auckland, arrived by the Main Trunk yesterday to attend tho \ League of Nations Conference this week in Wellington. Miss Borlaee held another of her bright and cheery dances at Goring street HalL on Friday, when a. balloon competition, added interest to the occasion. Each girl had a balloon fastened to her ankle, and the effort va« to keep the first balloon intact during the evening. Miss Unstcd and her partner were the winners. The attendance was large, and included a number of -naval cadets from the Woodarra. Wednesday afternoon a quiet but pretty wedding was solemnised at the Church of . St. Peter and St. Paul, Lower Hutt, the contracting parties being Mias Mary Cameron, fourth daughter of Mr and Mrs J. Cameron, of Hautana equare. Lower Hutt, and Mr J. Logan Black, eldest eon of the late Mr J. Black and Mrs Black, of Lyall Bay, Wellington. The Rev. Bean Lane officiated. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a cream frock and ■white pan velvet hat, and carried a bouquet erf white cacytus dahlias and asparagus ferns and l maidenhair ferns. She was attended by her slfc4*r, Miss Flora Cameron, as bridesmaid, who was dressed in a naw costume, and wore a black pan velvet hat. Mr H. Black, brother of the bridegroom, officiated ae beet man. After the wedding service the bridal party and the guest* motored to the residence of the bride's parents, where the breakfast was held. The guests were received by Mrs Cameron, who wore a dark grey costume, and block hat. The usual toasts were honoured, after which Mr and Mrs J. Logan Black left for their wedding tour, the latter travelling in a blue frock trimmed with grey astrachan, witli shoes and hat to match. The bride was the recipient of many handsome gifts, among which were a silver tea service; which was the gift from the staff of the Public Truet.
