GREAT RACE EXPECTED

CONTESTANTS IN BEST OF FETTLE. PXK VBEBS aAsOCIXTTON, WANGANUI, April If. Everything points to a fine race for the world’s sculling championship, which, for the second time this year, will take place on the Wanganui river, to-morrow. The river should he ideal, and if the weather remains fine a record crowd is expected. The town is full, of visitors. Hadfield and Paddon were resting today, having completed their training. Hadfield said: “I have put on a bit of weight since the last race, but I am in better form than ever.”

Paddon said: “If I win it will only be after a stiff struggle. I hope we will have a fine day and that the better man will win. I . know my opponent will row a fair, clean race, ana I shall do- the same, as I have always done.” Paddon went on, to say that he did not like the idea'of going out to row a race without being steered. He had never had to row under such conditions before as, in all his previous races, both men,' were allowed a steersman.

The race commences at 3.15 o’clock. The champiou is the favourite, and barring accidents is expected to win ".hrough. A fine race is expected.
