UNIVERSITY PROFESSOR
AN APPOINTMENT RESCINDED. TEE PISESS ASSOCIATION. DUNEDIN, April 4. At a meeting of the University Council- on .March 21et, applications for the position of professor of bacteriology and public health, were considered, and Dr. Peter McCallum was appointed l on the casting vote of the chairman. A notice to rescind the motion was at once given, and a special meeting of the council was held to-day to deal with the motion,- After considerable discussion, it was decided, by a majority of one vote, to rescind the motion, and offer the position to Dr. C. E. Hercus, who has 'been carrying out the duties of the position since Dr. Champtaloup’s retirement.
