TIPTON EXPLOSION
SENSATIONAL DEVELOPMENT.
TWO ARRESTS FOR MANSLAUGHTER.
Australian and N.Z. Cablo Association. (Received March 19, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, March 18. A sensational development of the Tipton explosion is reported. Knowles, the husband of the factory-owner, and Chadwick, the manager, have been charged with manslaughter. The total deaths now number 18.
An explosion occurred at Port Tipton, Staffordshire, killing five outright and injuring 30 girls who wero removing the contents .of 160 tons of cartridges. The explosion occurred while the contents wero being put into a separate receptacle, and blew off the roof. The whole of the 50 girls in the room were blackened beyond rcovniti.on. All the clothing of many of them was torn off the bocuca and tho hair burned off the others.
