OPERATIONS OF CONTROL BOARD THE PENNY PER CARCASE LEVY. When passing through Wellington yesterday, the representative of a large freezing company spoke interestingly of the effect on his company of tho operations of the Meat Control Board: - He said the company was. killing,ajs an average rate ofa fiOOQ •qprchqea; pelday,; when this mutton was exported it must pay a levy of Id per carcase; therefore, the impost on the one, company was £25 per day—that is, at the rate of nearly £BOOO per annum. In addition, of course, license fees, etc. r have to be paid. “The question,” he s&id, “arises whether the- companies will pass this impost on by adjusting their prices for buying from the producers.” ,
