SWAMP DRAINAGE
fUKURANGI’S 25,000 ACRES. FIRST SOD TO BE TURNED. The Hon. D. H. Guthrie (Minister for Lands) has arranged to attend with the Prime Minister, oh March 31st, the ceremony of turning the first sod in connection with the drainage of the Hikurangi swamp. The area to be drained comprises 21,500 acres, and is situated to the north of Whangafei.
The machinery for the Work was purchased by Mr J. B. Thompson, chief drainage engineer, during be recent visit to America.
