FORTHCOMING CONFERENCE. WELLINGTON REMITS. The Wellington Chamber of Commerce, at its meeting yesterday afternoon, appointed Messrs M. A. Carr, A. F. Roberts, S. A. Longnet, and O. H. Young as its delegates to the Conference of Chambers of Commerce, to be held at Christchurch on November 23rd and 24th. The following remits are to he forwarded by the Wellington Chamber: “That the association approve the. proposals of the Government Statistician to amplify the existing trade statistics of the Dominion to show: (1) The trade of New Zealand with other countries; (2) the trade of the ports of New Zealand as to quantity of cargo handled and number and tonnage of vessels entered and cleared.” “That the conference set up a special committee to consider the revised form of New Zealand jute goods contract submitted by the Calcutta Jute : Fabrics Shippers’ Association, and to make recommendations regarding this proposed contract forih.” “That it be a recommendation to Government that it is advisable that the High Commissioner have associated with him a committee representing importers from, and exporters to, New Zealand in connection with the Dominion representation on the Imperial Shipping Committee.” Remits are also, to he drafted affirming tjie desirability of setting up a commission on taxation, and urging the necessity for drastic curtailment of Government expenditure.
