Superintendent Tait stated, at the annua meeting of the Volunteer Fire Police last evening, that fully 85 per cent, of the fires throughout the -world were attributed to human carelessness. Mr H. M. Gore, who, in recent year*, hae done much for tennis, was spoken of in • eulogistic terms at the annual meeting of the oouncil of. the New Zealand Tennis Association. Mr M. E. Denndston (chairman) said :—''As you are aware, Mr H. M. Gore found it necessary through pressure of work to resign from the of the committee in February of this year, and X had the honour to he appointed in his stead. No one man has done more for lawn tennis in New Zealand than Harry Gore, and' his retirement is a distinct loss to the game; we feel, however, that he can always be relied on for assistance in the fnthre should troublesome matters arise. Those of us who have at any time been associated with him on the committee know how valuable hie knowledge ot the game and its management was: and [how ready his assistance in all ways.”
