NEW COASTAL BOAT
THE CANTERBURY CO.’S LATEST. DUNEDIN-WANGANUI TRADE. •The Canterbury Steam Shipping Company, Ltd., has received cable advice from its managing director (Captain Munro), who is at present in England, that he is arranging to purchase on behalf of the company a new and up-to-date steamer with a carrying capacity of 850 tons, the building of which Las just been completed. This steamer, which should be ready to leave for New Zealand very shortly, will make a valuable addition to tlie fleet of the Canterbury Steam Shipping Company, and after her arrival the additional tonnage available, with the Calm, Breeze, and Storm, will be more than, adequate to cope with tlie demands of shippers for the Dunedin, Oamaru, Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington and Wanganui trade.
Th© Canterbury Company initiated the Dunedin-Wanganui trade with the Storm seventeen years ago, and as the trade developed it lias continued adding to its fleet. During the war period, when there was such & demand for cargo space, it was impossible to acquire additional tonnage to meet these demands owing to the excessively high values. However, to conserve the interests of the shipping community, the company has taken the earliest opportunity since prices have resumed nor* mal conditions -to purchase the additional steamer.
