The appointment of Dr. C. Chilton ae Rector of Canterbury College wa© confirmed at the last meeting of the Board of Governors. In, accepting the offer. Dr. Chilton wrote: "I am fully art are of the great responsibility of the position and the opportunities it offers for advancing the welfare of the College, and I am not unmindful of the labour involved and of the difficulty of filling the position with satisfaction to the board and comfort to myself/ 7 Prior to his departure for the north, Mir M. S. Duckworth, of the traffic department staff at the Dunedin station, who ha© been transferred to the head offioe at Wellington, was entertained at a farewell "social" at Anderson Bay. Mr T. •Somerville presented him with a gold-mounted fountain pen on behalf of the Presbyterian Bible Class, with which Mr Duckworth has been associated. The following evening Mr Duckworth received, through Mr Bowles, the Traffic Manager, the presentation of a froj3i t.hu traffic staff.
