J penalty goal was kicked for Taranaki ivith-in twenty minutes of starting, and thi second score was a try by Malone ten minutes later. Wanganui scored a penalty goal shortly before half-time. -On changing ends the visitors made the game open, and assumed the aggressive. maintaining their advantage almost wholly throughout, but the Taranaki defence was . too solid. Half-way through the spell, asT the result of a fine passing rush, Collier scored at the corner flag, and a few minutes before the call of time, as the Tesult of a forward rush, followed by passing, Roberts i scored for Taranaki. i 1- was rather a game, and Taranaki were lucky to win-. There seems an impression in the northern end of the district that all important matches should be played at Levin, while locally (writes the “Times" Otaki correspondent) strong objection is raised to this. We held that encouragement should be given to the southern end which boasts of first-class juniors, and one soes no reason why a junior representative match, or the North v. South trial match, should not be played at Otaki, where'there ia every prospect of a good gate. If the union gives more encouragement to the southern end, football will Tapidly advance, and next season teams will be fighting for senior honours. »
