LAND SETTLEMENT

DISTRICT BOARD DECISIONS APPLICATIONS BEFORE MONTHLY MEETING. YESTERDAYS BUSINESS. The monthly meeting of the Wellington District Land Board was continued yesterday, Mr G. H. M. McClure (Commissioner of Crown Lands) presided, and the other members of the board in attendance were: —Messrs J. Dawsocn, H. T. Ellingham, J. Georgetti, and C. M. Intyre. The following matters were dealt with:— CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence and miscellaneous matters were disposed of as under: — The Hutt County Council applied that part section 45, block 2, Paekakariki, containing 20a 2r, be set apart as a recreation reserve for the use and benefit of the public and inhabitants of Paekakariki and control vested in the Hutt County Council. —Ref u sed. The Akitio County Council submitted a scheme of expenditure of "thirds'* accrued to the council to March 31st, 1921, amounting* to .=8134 18s 3d. —'Approved. VARIOUS APPLICATIONS. Section 15, block 3, Makotuku S.D., 343 acres.—Mr N. D. Wilson applied for a renewal of his education reserve lease over the above section, with perpetual right of renewal. —Resolved to offer lessee a new lease for a term of 21 years from 1/1/'2l at a rental of £B2 3s per annum, with perpetual right of renewal. Section 20, blocks 15 and, 16, Wanganui S.D., 493 acres.—The education reserve lease over the above section held by Mr Mark Henry Berry-expire© on September 30th, 1921.—Resolved to offer lessee a new lease for a term of 21 years from 1/1 /'2O at a rental of <£9B 5s per annum, with perpetual right of renewal. Section 11, block 12, Maungakaretu S.D., 281 acres.—The lease of the above section, held by Mr J. V. Gre&sotn, expiree on February 28th, 1922.—--Resolved to offer leasee a new lease at a rental of .£9B 7s per annum. Section. 30a, blpck 16, 491 acres.—The lease of the above section, held by Mr J. McKenzie, expires on February 28th, 1922.—Resolved to offer lessee a new lease at rent* of <£ls9 12s per annum. The Rangitikei County Council submitted a scheme of expenditure of "thirds” accrued to the 'councjl to March 31 st last, amounting to <£325 17s . Approved. The Ohaikune Town Board submitted a scheme of expenditure of "thirds' accrued to the board to March 31st last, amounting to <£3l 16s. —Approved. The Patea Countv 'Council submitted a scheme of expenditure of "thirds” accrued to the council to March 31st last, amounting to <£266 6s Id.—Approved. SURRENDERS, LEASES, ETC. Mr R. W. Pope applied to surrender his temporary license over an area in block 15, Manganoi S.D.—Resolved that surrender be accepted as from May. 26th, 1921. Section 9, block 11, 350 acres: Mr E, V Hussey applied for a renewal of his education reserve lease of the above section.—Resolved to offer ‘leasee a new lease fy: a term of 21 years from January Ist, 1922, at a rental of <£ls7 10s per annum, with perpetual right of renewal. Mr George Balsillie applied for a lease of sections 3,4, 5 and 6, block 11, town of Pongaroa, .containing one acre, and section 5, suburbs of Pongaroa, containing 8a Or 12p.—It was resolved to determine Mir Dalton© interest in the lease ot* section 15, subsection of Pongairoa, and providing Mr Balsillie pays the arrears of rent, he will be allowed to remain inr" possession of the sections until the question of allotting them to him oi a permanent tenure can be dealt with by ths^board. • - Mr J. R. Powell applied to alter conditions of license of section 3, block 4, Retarulke S.D., 26a Or 15p.—It was resolved to recommend that the land be disposed, of to him under section 14 of the Land Law© Amendment Act, 1912, at ; a capital value of <£4o. The Commissioner reported that the sum of .8134 10s had been received as Valuation for improvements on section 2*2, block 6, Makuri.—lt was resolved to pay the amount of valuation for improvements, less moneys duo to the Grown by the late ©elector, to the person entitled in terms of section 74 of the Land Act, 1908.

H. Wilson applied for a lease of section 4. block 9, town of R&ngat&ua, la 2i 3p.—lt was resolved to grant Mr Wilson a lease for 5 yeans under section 130 ot the Land Act, 1908, at a rental of 30s pet annum.

H. F. Brenchley applied to select 1000 aores of unsurveyed Crown lands, adjoining sections 79 and 83, block 1, Mikimiki S.D.—Application refused. A. W. Pedersen applied to transfer the tenancy of section 25, block 6, Makotuku, sa. 2r. Op., to -Messrs Crawlev an'd Dawson.—lt was resolved to determine the permit held by A. W. Pedersen and to grant a ;fear to year, tenancy under section 27 of the Public Reserves and Domains Act, 1908, to Crawley and Dawson, at a rental of <£4 2s 6d per annum. Consideration was given to the disposal of Otiranui, No. la, block, comprising 185 a. 2r., situate in block 11, Makotuku. —lt was resolved to recommend that the land be disposed of to Mr L. G. Smith, the lessee of the adjoining small grazing run, part 2 of 25 block, Makotuku, under section 14 of the Land .Laws Amendment Act, 1912, at a capital value of £4lO.

Applications were made for pections 15, 16, and 17, block 3, Hawtrey Settlement, area 2a. 17.5 p.. by James O'Donnell and Patrick ‘Shields, capital value £270.—1t was resolved that the application of James O'Donnell be approved, Mr P. Shields having the right to' remove all his fences. Possession to Jamee O'Donnell to be given on August Ist, 1921, subject to the right of Mr Shields to remove the fences within one month from that date.

Consideration was given to the disposal of section 17, 600 acres, and section lb, 400 a. 2r.. in block 13, Ruahine -S.D. —It wag resolved to offer the sections for selection by discharged soldiers under section 4 of the Discharged Soldiers Settlement Act, at capital values as under: Section 17. £1200; section 18, £7OO, with exemption from rent for four years. Ballot to be held at AVcllington.—lt; was also resolved to recommend that section 20, block 13, Ruahine. 36a. 2r., bo disposed of to Mrs- Eva May Waugh, lessese of adjoining section, at a capita] value of £6O.

The Department of Agriculture applied to surrender their tenancy, of sections 2a, 6, and 8, Paparangi Settlement, near Johnsonville. containing 16a. 3r. 38p.—It was resolved to accept the surrender as from June 30th, 1921, and refund the rent overpaid, as from 1/8/1921. The sections to he inspected and valued for disposal; the matter to be left in the hands of the Commissioner of Lands to deal with. Consideration was given to the disposal of section 44, block 12. Mount. Cerberus, 163 a.. 2r On., application for which was made bv Lancelot O. Hunt and Ralph Hunt /discharged soldiers), lessees of section 53 block 12. Mount ’Cerberus, 104 acres.—¥t was resolved to proclaim the land under section 3 of the Discharged Soldiers' Settlement. Act, 1915, and allot it to Lancelot Owen Hunt and Ralph Hunt under renewable lease, tenure at a capital value of £330 with exemption from rent for two years. The board went into committee to consider applications of a private and personal nature, of which there were a large number.
