The death of Mr Howard Vernon removes one of the moat notable figures on the Australasian stage. The late Mr Vernon will be best remembered by old time theatregoers for his fine mterpretations of principal characters in Gilbert and Sullivan operas, heisj, the Australasian original of all George Groetamth’s parte. He visited Near Zealand on many occasions, his last appearance in Wellington being iu tbe Williamson pantomime “Beauty «nJ the Beast.’’
