New Zealand Minister for External Affairs, arrived here from Samoa. He stated that nine-tenths ot tile criticism of New Zealand's administrat.on of Samoa nas due to prohibition. A deputation of white residents of Apia assured him that New Zealand’s drastic liquor laws were the cause of all the discontent and prejudice against the New Zealand Government. and if they were eased down the bulk of criticism would die away. Mr Lee added that he was quite satisfied with the progress being made. Ilr Lee Fong, formerly Chinese Consul-General at Samoa, also arrived. Discussing the labour problenr there Mr Fong said that if cheap labour were unobtainable many plantations would have to close, as at pre- ■ sent there were not sufficient men available to work them.
