RACING PERMITS
INDIGNATION AT NAPIER. FXR FBBSS HWOCTATTew NAPIER, July 26. Public opinion has been aroused in connection with the suggested cutting out of tlie Napier Park Racing Club, and an indignation meeting is proposed. Mr Vigor Brown, M.P., wired to the Hon. IV. Downie Stewart, asking if he has any legal authority. to refuse to issue a permit to any clnb the Commission reported against before Parliament considers the matter. The Minister has replied: “Legal authority to refuse to issue any permits is clear. Licenses will not be issued to those dubs to whom the Commission recommends no licenses shall be issued, unless Parliament rejects the report, in which case further consideration will be given. Otherwise if Parliament acquiesced in the report, there would not be sufficient days left for the remaining clubs if some of the available days had been lised by clubs that are recommended to be cut out.”
