At the last shoot of the Wadkanae Guti Club, T. Parata won the sparrow match, securing all Ids birds, while W. White was second, missing one bird. The latter won Mr A. W. Roberts’s trophy, securing seven out of ten, while in the third shoot Moohan, of Palmerston North, won, scouring eight birds out of eight. White was second witn seven birds. —Correspondent. A number of new hooks—fifty in all, selected by Mr A. J. Watts—will bo placed on the shelves of the Otaki Publid Library in the course of a few days. Several of the. books are by new authors, and should be an acquisition to the library. Other books are by leading writers. Speaking of soil survey at the conference of delegates of A. and P. and Breeders’ Societies, Mr F. W Fairoy (Netaon) said that the work carried out by Mr Rigg, of the' Caiwthron Institute, had been the means of increasing the production to the extent of 30 to 40 per cent. Dr C. J. Reakes (Director-General of 'Agriculture) said 6oil survey was a good and beneficial thing, but would take a long period to complete. The department was doing a lot of useful work in this direction, and soil was being analysed in a number of districts. He looked forward to the time when more time arid attention could bb paid to the survey of soilsi in New Zealand, and more -information obtained '
