A FATAL FALL

- TRAMOAR ACCIDENT. THE CORONER’S INQUIRY. 'An inquest was opened yesterday morning by Mr S'. K. Hunt, S.M. (coroner), when formal evidence was heard respecting the identity of the body of a man who was killed through injuries received through falling from a tramoar. The circumstances of the accident were that, on Saturday afternoon, at 12.15 o’clock, the deceased was a passenger on a tramoar that was proceeding along Manners street in the direction of Courtenay place. It was stated that he was standing on the rear platform of the car, and when the corner of Taranaki street was reached he either stepped or fell off backwards from the car on to the road, striking his head on the old tram-line. A doctor was sent for. but on his arrival the man was found to have expired. James Finlay said he had viewed the,body, and recognised it as that of his brother, John Ferguson Finlay, who. was forty-five years of age, single, and a hotel porter by occupation. The deceased had been out of work, and had been residing at the Salvation Army Industrial Home at Miramar. He was .subject to epileptio fits.

In order that the police might, have an opportunity of collecting evidence respecting the accident the inquiry was adjourned.
